The day is finally here! Going home today! It turns out I don’t need to wait for my bone marrow biopsy results as they take a week or more. After I see the Stanford team this afternoon, Eva and I are all packed and ready to head for the East Bay. Home!!!
The bone marrow exam yesterday was more complicated than they expected. It took almost two hours instead of the anticipated 20 minutes. They had to bring in a couple experts to drill deep enough to get two bone core samples, but they weren’t able to also get marrow aspiration (fluid in the bone marrow). However, they assured me that the core samples they did get were sufficient to evaluate the status of my T-cells. I’ll have another bone marrow exam back at Stanford in July.
I’m planning to take it slow and easy for the first few days so I might skip a few days before posting again. I’ll be on a fairly restricted activity level, but I’ll be able to live independently without my trusty caregivers. But, I’ll certainly be reminiscing about the past several weeks and let you know how I’m doing.
I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support.
Happy Birthday Eva!!! We did it!!!
Today May 18 was also Dad’s birthday. Clearly, a momentous day!
